Citric acid is one of the most widespread acids in the plant world. It can be found in almost all fruits, woods, funguses and even in tobacco. Lemon juice is composed of citric acid, between 5% and 7%. It plays a key role for the metabolism of all living organisms. The human body produces approximately 2g per day of citric acid and decomposes it again and again. It can be used for numbers of purposes: it is a food additive (E330), an additive in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals too, an acidulent in soft drinks as well as a pH regulator. It has been acknowledged that it is also a descaling agent (descaling, removing and dissolving limescale) and a wonderful antioxidant. It is completely biodegradable too.

Use with caution, reading the label before use is required.

Uses: For small and large domestic appliances descaling. Dilute 1 or 2 tablespoons of citric acid in 1L of cold water and use this solution to descale coffee machines and kettles.  Rinse with clear water afterwards. You can also use this solution to descale taps, showerheads or pressure reducers. To remove limescale from your washing machine, put 6 to 8 tablespoons of acid in the drum and run on a cycle (90°C).
